The European Horse Walker at Somerset

Horses that are rehabbing from a soft tissue injury or are recuperating from surgery benefit tremendously from the use of this horse walker.

Have you ever tried to hand walk a rehabbing horse for 6 months twice per day?  At the beginning of the rehab the horse is cooped up and high.  It spooks and rears and wants to take off, likely re-injuring himself.  At the end of the rehab you spend 40 or 50 minutes walking around in circles in the arena.

In the Euro Walker horses travel free.    They are exercised safely , in a confined  environment, but in the company of other horses.  They are exercised for a predetermined amount of time at a walk , trot or even canter, both directions, on a cushioned shredded rubber surface.   Hoses tend to enjoy the routine of going in the walker, it's a social event and they feel safe in the presence of other horses.  The moving partitions keep them at a good pace, leaving them little time to think about anything but walking.  They can have all their rehab without a person on their back! This gives them time to fully recover from their injury, and strengthening the muscles and tendons around the injured part at all gaits before adding a rider to the equation.

The track is covered with a roof for exercise in any weather.   The inside and outside fence are built in sturdy wood but with plenty of air circulation, and the rotating partitions are lightly electrified to prevent the horses from  playing with each other.
